The design of my Spectickles has changed throughout time. It didn’t begin with a single objective, but rather as a series, because I had a ridiculous concept in my brain about Dolbeer’s Grand Central Station at night. There were a lot of them, but not all of them were cartoonists. From the pages of comic books, Jim Unger, Charles Schulz, and Mike Peters, and from the New Yorker, Mort Gerberg, Mischa Richter, Charles Saxon, and Robert Weber.Just very brilliant. I find H. L. Mencken and Mark Twain’s works to be both encouraging and hilarious — if you haven’t read “Innocents Abroad,” you’ve been missing out on something truly hilarious.
Nothing makes me happier as a cartoonist than seeing someone grinning or laughing at my work and then feeling motivated to share it with others.
It’s an incredible sensation that never gets old. To be honest, I’m astonished that I’ve gotten this far in my career.
