Bizarro depicts everyday life in a quirky, exaggerated, and surreal manner, as the name implies. It’s “about the profoundly strange things that happen to all of us in our so-called ‘regular’ lives,” according to Piraro. The situations are bizarre, but they are frequently plausible. Some cartoons feature celebrities, such as Sheryl Crow and Penn Jillette, while others, such as Superman and Gumby, make references to themselves or characters from comic books or animation.

It was first syndicated by Chronicle Features, then by Universal Press Syndicate in 1995, and finally by King Features Syndicate in 2003.

Piraro’s friend and colleague Wayne “Wayno” Honath took over the daily strip’s creative duties on January 1, 2018, with Piraro continuing to do the Sunday strip. Wayno had been participating on the strip’s scripting since 2009, and had previously illustrated the strip.z
